A message from our Chapter President
Dear Maryland AAHAM Members,
It is time to get out the s'mores, campfires, and pumpkins ready for Fall. I wanted to share with you some of the things our chapter has been doing since we last spoke.
Maryland AAHAM submitted our Chapter Excellence Application. This application outlines our chapter and highlights the things we do throughout the year that make our chapter outstanding. For the last four years we have won within our division for having an outstanding chapter, and we hope to do so again. This year we have a new Chapter within our division. We look forward to the healthy competition! We would like to remind our members that we love hearing from you about the amazing things our members do to keep our chapter one of the best. If you have held a study session, written an article, or presented, please share it with us! This year we would like to thank Bernadette Debelius, CRCP, our Chapter Excellence Chair, as well as Beth Franzak, CRCE our Chairman of the Board for their hard work and time spent putting together our application. I can speak from experience that this is quite an undertaking and we appreciate all of their efforts. We did not stop there; we have also submitted our application for the Journal Award. This award is presented to chapters who have outstanding newsletters. This year we would like to thank Amy Weber, CRCP and Donti Blount, CRCS our Newsletter Chairs along with Jackie Hicks for their hard work putting this publication together. Each year we have worked to make improvements to our newsletter and are very proud to show it off on a national level! Announcements for both awards will be made during the National AAHAM Annual Institute which will be held in Orlando, Florida in a few short weeks. We look forward to sharing those results with you in our Winter MD AAHAM Connection.
We also had a very successful 43rd Annual Institute in Ocean City at the Princess Royale Hotel. This event continues to be a crowd pleaser, and we broke previous records with over 230 attendees pre-registered. This year’s theme, “Play a Starring Role in Healthcare Partnerships”, provided a number of great speakers. A special thank you to the coordinators of the event: Erin Miskelly, CRCE, Kayla Walton, CRCE, Hollie Miller, Karen Moore, CRCE, KC Lycett and John Thomson. A heartfelt thank you to our support team of Amy Ghattas and Amy Weber. Also, through your generosity, our Silent Auction raised $3,900 for Cystic Fibrosis, Kennedy Krieger and Hospital for sick children in Washington, DC. Our 50/50 Raffle to benefit Soldiers of MD AAHAM members and the Wounded Warrior Project raised over $1500. Richard Cheek of PatientCo was the winner of the raffle and generously gave back his winnings to support such a worthy cause. We were also happy to host National AAHAM’s President elect, John Currier, CRCE at our AI, and were very excited to show off what a wonderful chapter we have! This AI featured some changes based on the feedback from prior years. If you attended this event, please complete the survey monkey that was sent out to you. It is important to us that we hear from you! Each year we review all of the survey’s completed and use your thoughts to further our mission. We truly appreciate your feedback.
For a little over the past year, we have hosted our monthly meetings at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve. Overall our feedback from membership has been good and we plan to use them for our upcoming Installation Banquet on January 30, 2016 as well as our 2016 monthly meetings. We look forward to your continued feedback regarding our educational sessions. It is important to us that we continue to provide quality educational programs to our membership.
And lastly, with fall in the air, pumpkins and hot cocoa all around, it is time again for our Maryland AAHAM Board of Directors elections. If you feel you can make a difference in the success of our organization and have the time and dedication to make that a reality, we urge you to submit a nomination for the 2016 through 2017 (2 year term) Board. Applications will be accepted until November 27, 2015 and voting will take place in December. Please watch your email for further information.
Maryland AAHAM continues to be the largest chapter within the United States. We currently have 406 National Members, which sets us apart from many. Please continue to share with your coworkers and staff the benefits of joining Maryland AAHAM.
Thank you all for all you do to make our chapter outstanding. Maryland AAHAM is its members and I am so honored to be your Chapter President.
MD AAHAM Chapter President
