A message from our Chapter President
Dear Maryland AAHAM Members,
Summer is coming to a close, although it was not a hot summer like we are used to. As we get ready for fall, I wanted to share with you some of the things our chapter has been doing since we last spoke.
Maryland AAHAM submitted our Chapter Excellence Application. This application outlines our chapter and highlights the things we do throughout the year that make our chapter outstanding. For the last three years we have won within our division for having an outstanding chapter, and we hope to do so again. This year we would like to thank Bernadette Debelius, CRCS-I, our Chapter Excellence Chair, as well as Beth Franzak, CRCE-I, our Chairman of the Board for their hard work and time spent putting together our application. I can speak from experience that this is quite an undertaking and we appreciate all of their efforts. We did not stop there; we have also submitted our application for the Journal Award. This award is presented to chapters who have outstanding newsletters. This year we would like to thank Amy Weber, CRCP-I our Newsletter Chair along with Jackie Hicks for their hard work putting this publication together. We have made major improvements to our newsletter and are very proud to show it off on a national level! Announcements for both awards will be made during the National AAHAM Annual Institute which will be held in San Diego, CA this October. We look forward to sharing those results with you in our Winter MD AAHAM Connection.
We also had a very successful 42nd Annual Institute in Ocean City at the Princess Royale Hotel. This event continues to be a crowd pleaser, and we broke previous records with over 221 attendees pre-registered. This year’s theme, “Covering our Bases in Healthcare”, provided a number of great speakers to help us ensure we are covering our bases and prepared for the future. A special thank you to the coordinators of the event: Erin Miskelly, CRCE-I, Amy Ghattas, Amy Weber, CRCP-I, Hollie Miller, Karen Moore, CRCE-I, KC Lycett, and John Thomson. Your dedication and attention to detail provided our members with a successful and memorable event. Also, through your generosity, our Silent Auction raised over $2,200 to benefit the Cistic Fibrosis Foundation of Maryland, and our 50/50 Raffle to benefit the brave men and women who serve our country raised over $1,000 and the winner, Jennifer Beeker, gave her winnings back for such a worthy cause. We were also happy to host National AAHAM’s President, Vicki DiTomaso, CRCE-I and First Vice President John Currier, CRCE-I at our AI, and were very excited to show off what a wonderful chapter we have!
This year when we last spoke, we were heartbroken that Snyder’s was not going to reopen after their devastating flood. After countless meetings, searching our great state for a new location, we believe we have found something that will knock your socks off! We hope you will be able to join us for our upcoming meetings, October 10th, November 21st, and December 19th, at our new meeting location The HOTEL at Arundel Preserve. We believe that will find this new location to be a breath of fresh air. Their facility and staff are outstanding and we hope that this location can be a long term solution to the end of our Snyder’s era. Although we are excited, we look forward to your feedback if you have any suggestions or would like to provide feedback on the location please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Certification and Education continue to be a major part of what we do. We thank Erika Comi, CHAM, Karen Moore, CRCE-I, and Chuck Poggioli, CRCE-I, for all of their work helping our membership prepare for these exams. Remember, Maryland AAHAM offers a study guide loaner program in an effort to put the test in reach of more members. Visit our website for more information and for the latest study session dates.
And lastly, with fall in the air, it is time again for our Maryland AAHAM Board of Directors elections. There are two open positions for this upcoming term. If you feel you can make a difference in the success of our organization and have the time and dedication to make that a reality, we urge you to submit a nomination for the 2015 – 2017 Board. Applications will be accepted through October 25th and voting will take place in November. Please watch your email for further information.
Maryland AAHAM continues to be the largest chapter within the United States. We currently have 412 National Members, which sets us apart from many. Please continue to share with your co-workers and staff the benefits of joining Maryland AAHAM.
Thank you all for all you do to make our chapter outstanding. Maryland AAHAM is its members and I am so honored to be your Chapter President.
MD AAHAM Chapter President
Kristina Mori, CRCS-I, BS, CRCE-I
