The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) is the premier professional organization in healthcare administrative management. AAHAM's mission is to provide education, certification, networking, and advocacy for healthcare revenue cycle professionals.
The Maryland Chapter continues this mission at a local level through our continual education.
A message from our Chapter President
Dear Maryland AAHAM Members,
It is my distinct honor to begin these next two years with the support of some of the brightest in our healthcare industry. I am very excited about a brand new year with new possibilities. Our Board of Directors, chosen by the members, are also very excited to showcase their talents and propel us to a new level. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was able to attend the Installation of our new board on January 30th. We had a great turn out and received positive feedback from many of the attendees. A special thank you to those who came out in direct support of one of the board members. It is a great privilege to see members supporting fellow members in this volunteer mission that can be challenging, but very rewarding. It was also an honor to have several of the past Maryland Chapter Presidents in attendance. The bright future that we are moving towards was paved through the hard work of these individuals.

We started this year with an excellent meeting on February 5th and we will be holding the third party payer meeting on March 18th. This is a great opportunity to meet with the payers and to network with your peers who may be experiencing similar struggles in their business offices. Please submit your suggestions for topics/questions you would like the payers to address. Please mark your calendars for upcoming monthly education sessions at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve: March 18th, April 22nd, May 20th and July 22nd. As a result of member feedback, we have moved the end of year celebration to July so that more members will be able to attend. The price for a monthly meeting will remain $45 for members/$70 for non-members. Please remember to register before the cutoff date, typically the Friday before the meeting, to avoid late registration rates.
At the March meeting we will be selecting the winner of a free registration and trip to Washington, DC for the 12th annual Legislative Day on April 25th-26th. The experience that Legislative Day affords those who attend is priceless. National AAHAM creates an opportunity for attendees to meet with elected officials. It is a very unique experience and one that makes a difference. This year’s focus is on the Medicare Audit Improvement Act and Hospital Improvements for Payment (HIP) Act. All attendees are given the tools needed to speak to the Healthcare Industry’s point of view.
Education is a mission of our chapter that is of utmost importance to me. I am pleased to be hard at work with our past and present board members to bring the full day learning session, “Revenue Cycle Bootcamp,” to our members once again. This type of hands-on learning environment takes us back to the basics of our everyday revenue cycle functions. It has been a favorite of everyone who has attended in the past. It is a great way to get new employees comfortable with revenue cycle topics, terms and processes and to get seasoned employees prepared for upcoming certification exams. There is no better way to expand the proficiency of our staff than through relevant education. Certification is a natural progression of that education and we are striving to continue to provide valuable resources for all of our members who choose to put their skills to the test by sitting for an exam.
This year’s Annual Institute theme also resonates our mission for education. Kayla Walton will be heading the charge for putting together this year’s event, “Taking it Back to the Basics: Fundamental Strategies of a Healthy Revenue Cycle” in Ocean City, Maryland from September 13-15th. This event is always well attended and this year will be no exception. We welcome back Jim Whicker, our EDI expert, as well as the esteemed president of National AAHAM, John Currier. Look for “Save the Date” cards, coming in the mail soon!
I look forward to meeting new members and seeing familiar members in the coming months. Please take time to introduce yourself at a future event. I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Feel free to reach out to me directly if I can be of assistance. I recognize the members are the strength of the chapter and I am humbled and eager to lead the strongest chapter in the nation. Here’s to an incredible two years!
